01:09 pm - Cherry Blossoms and Kana
Denver Sakura Matsuri was just as pathetic as expected, but I had a good time anyway. I love just walking around, seeing the people in Japanese clothing. Not a single Cherry Blossom in sight; you'd think they'd hold it in the Botanical Gardens when the trees bloom. But no, I suppose if you have a "Sakura Square" you get Sakura Matsuri in it. I missed my chance in New York, so I shall suffer in peace now…
The booths were all out of kimono scraps, I guess my mom really did buy them out last year! I'm sad the Anime people weren’t running a Manga sale this time, and I was all ready to lighten my wallet…
If you've never seen a Tea Ceremony, you'll believe me when I say the Japanese take delight in making things far more complicated than necessary. It's all in good fun though. I'm afraid my Japanese isn't good enough for me to go and become a Cha Master… Life is full of disappointments.
The Pacific Mercantile Company was good as usual, all sorts of free food and samples. The sale on mochi ice cream made me gain a pound or too. I'm sad they don't have a better stationary section. Kinokuniya has spoiled me rotten.
No matter where I look on the internet, I can't find kana practice books! Well, aside from the creepy looking ones with random flowers on the front… Yes, I'm picky I know. J-box is trying to make me buy things again, damn them!
Ebay let me down… I wanted some kana charts to hang on my walls. My roommates hang posters of bands and other stars to drool over, I could have Hirigana… The idea makes me giggle. I MISS YOU KINOKUNIYA! I LOVDED YOU!

02:17 pm - Denver Post
The best thing about the newspaper? They put comics in it.
Sadly, they are often badly drawn, recycled, or plain stupid. However, as a "cartooning" major, it is my duty to read comics, if only to absorb some inkling of information as to what the mindless masses respond well to, if only further my own career in some inexplicable way.
Only one problem, college students don't have the money to eat, much less by papers. Solution: the internet. Sadly, online newspapers only show a fraction of their daily comics, but I doubt I'd be able to take reading all of them anyway. My mind would melt.
So, I turn to my hometown newspaper, the Denver Post. Let us see the magic I've been depriving my self of for so long…
The third panel has me confused. What is that thing floating in the water to the left of the speech bubble? It distracts me. The color difference in the backgrounds have me puzzled, too. Are the darker shades making a frame or something? Does it trick the eye into seeing something less than linear?
Look at Fillmore the turtle's expression in the last panel. His eyes bloodshot, his hand shaking, especially his nice white teeth, I really get the feeling of rage here. I also get the feeling he has a good dental plan. I must say, for someone being so good humored in the first part, the extreme annoyance in that last part has me baffled. Is he haunted by this or something? Is the shark going to die? Hmm…

I'm just here. Sometimes, I write stuff...
